The club was formed in 1995 and were originally known as Thistle Youth and under the leadership of Dave Hoult, Jim Skelley, Fiona Walton and Jimmy Dixon the Club soon built up and in 2006 merged with Sompting F.C. to form the current club, Sompting & Thistle Youth.
We have also the honour of having players who have since gone on to play professional football, the most notable being John Sullivan, a goalkeeper who progressed through the age groups and has been a regular in Brighton’s first team this season and has now signed for Millwall. We also have had Billy Franks who made his debut for Bournemouth this season and Rhys Murphy who has represented England in the Under 16, Under 17 and Under 19 teams and is now on the books at Arsenal.
In 2007, after a lot of hard work by all connected to the Club, we were awarded Charter Standard status. This means that we, as a Club, have demonstrated to the FA that we have a clear vision on how we see the development of youth football progressing in the local area, giving players of all abilities the opportunity to learn and to enjoy playing the country’s number one sport. For the players and parents of the club members, they can be confident that the children are being coached in a safe and friendly environment, with all the club’s officials having satisfactorily undertaken a minimum of the FA Level 1 Coaching Certificate, the FA Emergency First Aid course, a Child Protection Workshop and all having been CRB checked by the relevant authorities. All managers and coaches are volunteers, giving up a lot of time to organize and take training & matches.
In 2011, the committee announced that the proposed merger with Lancing United FC had been agreed, and the club will now be known as Lancing United Youth.
